How to Motivate Yourself to Get Your Business + Life to the Next Level
I want to talk about something a bit different today.
Most of my clients have been around the block, more than once. All of us who have been in the trenches for quite some time are aware that burnout is a real thing.
Many people think of burnout as something that can happen acutely as a major life stumbling block. But actually, most people go through phases of burnout periodically. They just don’t call it that. It’s those times where you’re just not into your work and might need a spark.
And it’s those times when you feel like you’re just tired of the journey and feeling like you still aren’t where you want to be. Tired of trying to find the next level. But knowing that you really need to get there.
It’s hard to admit. I think most people keep it to themselves.
It can be hard. A struggle to find the motivation to get started. You may know that you need to make a change but find yourself unable to push forward and do it.
What I want to talk about today is the possibility that you could change your life entirely by simply changing your attitude and outlook. It might sound too good to be true, but motivating yourself to change is possible. If you never have a problem motivating yourself, this one isn’t for you.
Here are a few simple tips that have worked for me. And I hope they can help you get into the mindset needed to make a real difference:
1. Identify your goals and dreams. One of the best ways to get motivated is to have clear goals. So, what are your goals and objectives? Once you have a good idea of what you’re working towards, it will be easier to find the motivation to get started. Here are some goal-setting tips:
Make a list of specific goals. Focus on short-term, attainable goals, and then work your way up to more challenging goals.
Set SMART goals that are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound. Yes I know this has been said a million times. But it really is effective. When you have clear goals, you can create a detailed plan of action to take your life to the next level.
2. Make a plan of action. Once you know what you want to achieve, it’s time to make a plan of action. You don’t need to complicate things, but having a clear idea of the steps you need to take will help keep you on track. How to create a plan of action:
First, analyze your goals and identify the essential steps you need to take to achieve your goals. Next, make a list of action steps and decide on a timeframe for each goal.
Don’t overwhelm yourself with too many goals at first. Start small and work your way up. For example, if you want to earn $10,000 free cash flow per month, don’t create a target to hit that $10,000 next month. Set your target for $2000, and create a blueprint to identify how you can achieve your financial goal. Build from there.
Next, create a list of three important tasks each day of the week. Again, keep it simple. Don’t bombard yourself with a massive task list. Achieve your small goals first and work your way up to the bigger goals.
Take small steps every day. Changing your life can seem daunting, but breaking it down into small steps will be easier. Just focus on taking things one day at a time and progressing towards your goal little by little. Before you know it, those small steps will add up to something big.
3. Persevere through setbacks and challenges. Life is full of challenges and setbacks, so don’t let it discourage you if you hit a few bumps in the road. Remember that these challenges are only temporary, and you can overcome them if you stay focused on your goals.
Celebrate your accomplishments. This one has been hard for me, but I’ve gotten better. As you progress towards your goals, be sure to take some time to celebrate your achievements. Recognizing your accomplishments will motivate you and remind you how far you’ve come.
There’s no need to wait until you’ve reached your goal to celebrate - every little step is worth celebrating. What’s to stop you from celebrating your daily wins?
4. Spend time with positive people. Be careful who you befriend. If you’re constantly around people who don’t believe in change or are negative, it will be harder to maintain a positive outlook.
Instead, try to surround yourself with people who support your goals and can help keep you motivated.
Finally, it’s essential to avoid negative thinking when trying to motivate yourself to change your life. Try to eliminate dialogue like, “I can’t do this” or “This is too hard.”
Instead, try to focus on the positive and believe in yourself. If you can do that, then anything is possible!
And do your best to stop comparing your progress to others. Find your true north. Don’t worry about what other people are doing. This one is tough but it’s worth pursuing. I find social media to be the number 1 culprit in this area. If you find yourself seeing other people’s posts and feeling like you aren’t at their level…consider hiding their posts so you no longer see them. Unless they inspire you to push higher. But if that’s really not the emotion you’re feeling, what’s the point of continuing to look at it.
So much of this is cultivating the ideal mindset to change your life. Then, it’s time to make some changes. You might find that it’s not as difficult as you thought and that you’re capable of much more than you ever imagined.
Motivation starts in the mind, and it is challenging to change your life completely if you don’t develop the correct mindset.
Keep believing in yourself, challenge negative thoughts, and surround yourself with uplifting, ambitious, forward-thinking people.
As long as you immerse yourself in positivity and stick to your plan, you will undoubtedly develop the motivation to change your life completely.
Thanks,
Josh
